Question:   My husband and I are both employed by the same firm. This is the kind of job that will always continue. There is no chance of us losing the jobs. We have a lot of debt, about $20,000, mostly to credit cards. We have no collateral as our house and car are provided by our employer. How can we get out of this mess without our employer finding out about our problem?

When someone is looking to file a proposal or bankruptcy the Trustee does not inform the employer. That is between you and your employer. In Alberta, there is a publication called Business Prospects that will on a weekly basis list all bankruptcies and proposals. But, if your employer does not subscribe to this publication, he may never find out about your financial concerns.

The best thing to do at this time is to get an assessment of your financial situation. You should contact a Trustee in your area by looking in the yellow pages under "Bankruptcy" to obtain a free assessment.

If you have any further questions or want to come in for a free assessment to our office, please call or email me using the information below.
