Question:

I am leasing a 1999 car through the manufacturer's credit division (e.g. Ford Credit). There are 2 years to go on the contract and we need the car, which is a typical family sedan, not a luxury car. If I declare bankruptcy can I be forced to give up the lease? What usually happens with a car lease?

Each leasing company treats bankruptcy (which is a form of default under your contract) a bit differently. Ford Credit has told us that they will allow the individual to continue paying as long as the payments are up to date when the individual files bankruptcy and they have been a good customer with respect to their payment history.
