I am a Canadian citizen who is living in the US and has recently been laid off and so has to return to Canada. I have about $10,000 in US credit card bills. Can I declare bankruptcy on just these US credit cards and will it effect my credit rating in Canada once I move back?

If you are planning to file for bankruptcy in the U.S. I'd recommend you contact a lawyer there regarding these questions. You can find one on the website www.bankruptcyaction.com. I believe you must declare all debts, whether U.S. or Canadian, so it might affect your credit here.
