Question:

I'm 23 and and work full time, plus I'm married with 2 kids. My annual income is $28,000. I'm making payments on a used Pontiac car and I took out a loan for $5,000 and I have medical bills and credit card bills. I can't afford to pay my bills and can't even pay my rent on time. My mother in-law mentioned bankcruptcy to me and I am unaware of the procedures. I don't want to lose our car. I need it to get to work. I'm about $25,000 in debt or more. I went to a company that puts all your credit cards on one bill and I still can't make the payments. Can you please help me?

Answer:   Given your income for a family of 4, bankruptcy may be a good option to help you deal with the debts. I'd suggest you make an appointment for a free consultation with a Trustee, who will take details of your situation and explain the options and the bankruptcy process, as well as what you are allowed to keep. You can reach Collins Barrow limited at 310-8888 in Alberta, or check the phone book under "Bankruptcy" for a Trustee near you.
