I would like to know if only certain people with certain circumstances can file for bankrupcy. Are there any special requirements before you can file for bankrupcy?

Answer:

To be eligible for bankruptcy, the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act requires that you owe at least $1,000 and be unable to pay your debts as they come due. There are a number of other factors that come into play when deciding whether bankruptcy is an option for you and I'd suggest you call a Trustee to briefly discuss your situation.
