Question:

For my parents I put a bunch of credit cards in my name for them to use 10 years ago which they promised to pay off years ago - however all cards are maxed out (in my name but I don't have them, they do) and recently purchased a $5,000 stereo with a boyfriend who left me and took the stereo with him. Which I am supposed to make payments on since its in my name but I cannot afford. So that company is after me. Also purchased a truck with him which I do have in my possession but I'm struggling to pay. And now I'm on a fixed income (maternity leave) and can hardly afford rent let alone diapers. I also have numerous outstanding bills the boyfriend left me with that are being threatened to go into collections. Would I qualify for bankruptcy? Or what other options are there?

Answer:

Yes, you would qualify for bankruptcy. With limited income while on maternity leave your options are also very limited. I'd suggest you talk to a Trustee about your options. We offer a free, confidential first appointment to debtors. You can reach us in Alberta at 310-8888.
