I've seen several questions outlining the difficulty in obtaining a chequing account following bankruptcy. I'm wondering why this is so. What happened to these people's original bank accounts? Are they siezed or closed as part of the bankruptcy?

Often the bank they are using will close their accounts when they get the bankruptcy notice. We suggest that people open a new account with a bank they do not have a debt with.
