I am engaged to be married in 9 months to a man who has nearly 20 k in debt. We have been bouncing credit card balances from one to the other, but still can't keep up. We even settled some of the debt for 70% by extending an existing consolidation loan. I have no credit whatsoever. I have never had a credit card. If he declares bankrupcy before the wedding, how will it affect me once I am his wife? Will we be able to buy a home?

In Canada, getting married doesn't make you liable for your spouse's debt and his bankruptcy will not affect your credit. If you are able to qualify for a mortgage, buying a house shouldn't be a problem for you.
