My question is, while you are going through
bankruptcy, and want to do your income tax, if you get a refund do you lose it? Or could you wait to file after the bankruptcy is over?

Tax refunds for previous years and the year that the bankruptcy is filed are considered to be assets of the estate and must go to the Trustee. The Trustee usually files the tax return from information you provide to him. If you do not provide the information, the Trustee will request it from your employer or from Revenue Canada.
