Question:

My question is: Can a wife be sued for a husband's credit card debt if she never applied or cosigned on his credit card while he is still living? Isn't the person that applied and used the monies responsible?

Answer:

A spouse can only be held liable for a credit card if she also contracted for the debt by signing.
