If both my husband & I file for bankruptcy are we both allowed a vehicle under $5000 (total of 10000) and both allowed personal articles such as funiture under $4000 (for a total of $8000)?

Yes. In Alberta each person is entitled to claim a $5,000 exemption for a vehicle that they own, and a $4,000 exemption for furniture and personal effects.
