Question:   What happens to my leased vehicle if I declare personal bankruptcy? This car is for personal use and to goto work. What about if I owe a friend some money and want to pay him back after filing for bankruptcy. Will my trustee need to know and am I allowed to pay my friend off?

Answer:

Secured creditors are not affected by personal bankruptcy and they can allow you to continue to make payments and keep the vehicle if they wish. If you want to continue to pay a friend while bankrupt, you must disclose that information to the Trustee, who will advise you of the consequences of doing so.
