Question:

I was recently approved as a Canadian permanent resident and I am moving to Alberta soon. I have had a problem paying my credit cards lately in the U.S., and my wages may soon be garnished. Will a U.S. court have jurisdiction over my wages in Canada? Can my Canadian wages be garnished for U.S debts? Thanks.

Answer:

I believe that if an American creditor chooses, they can make application for a Court Order to attach to your wages in Canada.
