In a case where one has accumulated bills beyond
the ability to pay them off, or even make all the minimums, and being off
work for medical and stress leave, what are the alternatives? The stress of
dealing with the debt is causing more health problems, so it seems like a
vicious circle. What do you recommend?

Two legislated programs which may be of a benefit are the Orderly Payment of
Debt program or a Proposal. The appropriate option can be determined
after an assessment of your financial situation. Also, non-legislated programs
which might be of benefit would be a consolidation loan or maybe selling
assets or borrowing form friends or family.
To obtain a free assessment of your financial concerns, you should
contact a Trustee in your area by looking in the yellow pages under "Bankruptcy".
