Question:   A creditor is threatening to sue me. What can he do before I declare bankruptcy, and what can he do after?

Answer:   Once someone files bankruptcy there is a stay of proceeding and the creditor cannot pursue you any further. Up to this point though, they can pursue all of their legal remedies, which can include suing you and proceeding to garnish your wages or bank account or seize your assets.
