Question:

I am presently working in retail as I have been unable to find outside employment in web design. As I have the funds, I intend to take courses to further my education to that end. In the meantime, I am picking up odd jobs to work on web design in my home. I have been told by another Trustee that I have to sell my computer to pay trustee fees as I am not using my computer in a full-time business. I am seeking a second opinion.

Answer:   The exemptions under the Alberta Civil Enforcement Act are yours to claim. If you feel the computer is exempt then you should be able to claim it exempt. If the Trustee does not think it is exempt he can either refuse to be your Trustee or alternatively take the matter to court for advice and direction. The court's decision is final.
