I am an Alberta resident but am currently living overseas. Payments will be starting shortly on my student loans totalling $40,000 plus another $9,000 student line of credit. Is it unreasonable for me to consider filing for bankruptcy to absolve my credit card debt of roughly $23,000? It is going to be very difficult, if at all possible, to keep up with all payments. I have tried consolidating my credit cards with RBC but due to a poor credit rating they would not consolidate them for me without a co-signer which I can not obtain. Would consolidation be a better solution? But what company would be willing to as RBC wouldn't? Further, I am not planning to reside in Canada for another 5 to 7 years. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You may want to contact Credit Counselling Services of Alberta who offer a program called Orderly Payment of Dbt, which can include your student loans. They can be reached through their website www.creditcounselling.com
