Question:

I am considering bankruptcy in the very near future, as my credit is beyond repair. This is due to 2 years of illness (not insured) resulting in intermitent employment.

My problem is this: I cannot open a bank account. I have been declined at three mayjor banks, after they do a routine credt check. My credit report indicates a R9 with just about every creditor.

I cannot set-up auto deposit at my new job, which is a company policy. I have to pay my creditors, landlord and utility bills with money orders, costing $5.00 ea. I lose 40-$50.00 bi-weekly using near banks to cash my paycheque.

I'm digging myself deeper into a credit hole every month with these expenses. How can I open a bank acct?

Answer:

I can offer you three different solutions:

  1. Canada Trust or First Calgary Financial are sometimes easier to open an account with if you are having financial problems.

  2. The Royal Bank on Memorial drive SE has indicated they may open an account for undischarged bankrupts. Please contact Mr. Randy Coutts.

  3. If you file bankruptcy with us, the HonkKong bank (downtown branch) will open a saving account for you.

If you have any further questions or want to come in for a free assessment to our office, please call or email me using the information below.
