Question:

I will be claiming bankruptcy in the next few weeks. I have recently started a new job that has a 6 month probabtionary period. I am worried that my employer may find out thru my current bank (Royal Bank)that I am in arrears, threaten to garnish and could cost me my job. I want to open a new account with another bank for direct deposit, no credit or anything else. I live in Calgary and have tried Calgary 1st Savings and was refused. I also owe approx. 35k with CIBC being another creditor. What/who would you suggest in this matter? I am thinking about ATB.

Answer:

You could try any one of the Credit Unions or banks where you do not currently have debt. Most financial institutions now do credit checks which is why you may be experiencing difficulty.
