In 1997 I went through a personal bankruptcy and moved from
this province for a period of time. I never received a discharge from the trustee. Does the bankruptcy automatically discharge after a certain period of time? How would I go about getting a discharge? Is there a difference on my credit rating whether the discharge was done or not?

Bankruptcy is not automatically discharged if you did not complete your duties. You must contact your Trustee to make arrangements to complete the process, which will involve a Court application. Your credit rating should show that you are an undischarged bankrupt but I'd recommend that you contact Equifax or TransUnion to see what they have reported on your record.
