Question:

My wife and I are both retired now and we need to file for bankruptcy because of our credit card debts. The credit cards are joint so I guess we both would need to file? Also will our company pensions be affected as well as CPP and Old Age Security? We just recently moved to Alberta from Manitoba and are currently living with our son and his family because we can't afford to live on our own now.

Answer:   If the credit cards are held jointly you will probably both need to file. Your company pensions and CPP/OAS payments will not be affected although you will need to report the amounts received monthly to the Trustee.
