Question:

I am currently living in Alberta, however I am planning to move to Ontario. If I am required to appear for court because of a second bankruptcy, what would happen if I was unable to appear due to being unable to get enough time off work (because it would be on a weekday, and is a substantial distance to travel) or if I didn't have enough money to pay for the trip west? Are there any other options that would be available to me due to these hardships? Could I have the proceedings transfered to Ontario?

We normally recommend that you attend the court appearance for discharge in a second bankruptcy, but it is not mandatory. If you have completed all your duties and there are no objections to your discharge you would not have to be present. Your Trustee may want a letter from you explaining your absence. Please talk to their office regarding your concerns.
