Question:

I had a personal bankruptcy that was discharged 14 years ago, now I am interested in trying to pursue getting a mortgage on a house. My hypothetical question has to do with the question they will ask - "Have you ever declared personal bankruptcy". Hypothetically if after 7 years the record of this is taken off my Bureau report what would keep an individual from denying it ever happened to avoid the potential scare the creditors might have. Or are there other sources that a creditor would find this history?

Answer:

The answer to your hypothetical question is yes, you have been bankrupt before. It is been our experience that a bankruptcy from this long ago will not be an obstacle to you getting a mortgage.
