Question:

In either 2000 or 2001 my car got reposessed and I haven't heard anything about it until lately. For the past year or so they have been sending letters saying that I owe 5000 on the car and that if I don't pay it they will garnish my check. Is this true, can they do that?

Answer:

While you will have to review the paperwork you signed at the time you financed the car, the answer is likely yes. You might want to ask for this paperwork and have a lawyer review it.
