Question:

I have been discharged from bankruptcy for 18 months and have been in the process of trying to rebuild credit. I called to apply for a Sears credit card but was declined due to the fact that I already had an account with them that was written off. Sears was included in my bankruptcy, but I thought by filing for bankruptcy, once I was discharged all previous debt was wiped off? They informed me they would not issue another card until I paid what was written off. I thought under bankruptcy protection prior debt was forgiven. Is this not the case?

Answer:

Seras cannot pursue you for the debt but they are under no obligation to give you a new account. See our website for tips on how to rebuild your credit.
