Question:

I had accumulated 3 loans started at over 10 years ago

The most recent being at least 4 years ago

At the time I was only 17 or 18 and wasnt thinking about the distant future

Now I am a 29 year old mom of 2 little boys and stay home with them -Youngest 11 month

My husband makes fairly good wages but was not with me when I signed for my loans

We are just getting by with 2 kids and me not working

He makes around 60 000 or so a year

But we just bought a new house in his name 1000 a month

They have been harrassing and calling so much that I recently changed my number

If I claim bankruptcy because my husband did not sign for the loans can they take our home which we recently bought and is only in his name

And if I claim bankruptcy will they take his wages into account if he is unwilling and unable to pay?

Is it illegal to change my number?

Thanks so much.

Answer:

As your husband did not sign for the loan he is not responsible to repay it. As for the house, as it is in his name, was purchased by him and has never been in your name, it cannot be touched. And, no it is not illegal to change your phone number.
