Question:

I have been unemployed for the past 4 years and live in an apartment. I do owe a car. I have no source of income and have 80,000 dollars on credit cards.I have no bank balance. How do I declare bankruptcy? How long does it stay on my records? If I get a job, will the creditors come after me? What is the fee to get a bankruptcy lawyer? Please help as I am going crazy.

Answer:

If you live in Canada you must contact a Trustee, not a lawyer, about filing bankruptcy. The fee will depend on your situation. Once a bankruptcy is filed creditors can no longer pursue you for their debt. Please check the Yellow Pages for a Trustee in your area.
